Climate change skepticism and farmers' responses to CO2e taxation
The study published in the journal Ecological Economics examines how climate change skepticism influences farmers’ perceptions of agricultural climate policies and mitigation measures. In a survey of 981 Danish farmers, VISIONARY partners Kahsay Haile Zemo and Mette Termansen from the University of Copenhagen found that climate-skeptical farmers tend to overestimate the negative impacts of a CO₂e tax, show stronger resistance to the policy, and are less likely to participate in climate initiatives or adopt mitigation measures. The effects are particularly pronounced among livestock farmers.
