Introducing… University of Copenhagen, Denmark

5. March 2026

The University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is leading Work Package 3 (WP3) and coordinating the experimental work on agri-environmental policies in areas such as climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and water resource management. In addition, UCPH is engaged in five case study research activities:

  • Value chain analysis of plant-based protein
  • Climate mitigation
  • Water management
  • Mental models for organic food systems
  • Shifts in consumers’ purchasing of plant-based products

Within UCPH, the Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) participates in the project. Several research groups from IFRO contribute, including the Natural Environment and Resources Unit, the Food Production, Markets and Agricultural Policy Unit, and the Food Consumption, Nutrition and Health Unit.

As a large, research-intensive university, UCPH carries out basic, applied, and business-oriented social science and humanities research in a multidisciplinary setting, encompassing economics, law, sociology, political science, development studies, and bioethics. IFRO offers several MSc and BSc programmes in Agricultural Economics, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, and Integrated Food Studies, all of which align closely with the VISIONARY project.

Beyond research and teaching, IFRO supports ministries in the development and evaluation of agricultural, environmental, and natural resource regulation, drawing on insights from both national and international research projects.

The VISIONARY team at UCPH brings together diverse expertise across environmental economics related to agri-environmental policies and consumer studies, agricultural economics for production systems, and humanities and social sciences perspectives on the agricultural sector.
