This SPI gathers a broad range of stakeholders from the Danish plant-protein sector, including producers (food companies, processors, farmers), NGOs and think tanks, and policy-makers from different government agencies.
The first SPI meeting took place on June 19, 2023. The participants engaged in lively discussions. There was large consensus among the SPI participants that an increase in legume consumption is needed in Denmark in order to meet the climate and environmental targets and enable the sustainable transition of the food system. The SPI participants emphasised that an increase in consumer demand for legumes would be an important driver for suppliers to increase/start the domestic production of legumes for food.
The second SPI meeting in November 2024 looked further into the issue of meeting consumer preferences for tasty and easy-to-prepare food. Connecting supply side actors better with each other and with scientific evidence and best practice examples was another focus area.
